> How to add MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in Wix: Manage DNS Records, the Edit MX Records wizard, a blank Host Name for the root, and when Wix can't help.

## Short answer

In Wix, go to Domains, click the Domain Actions icon next to your domain and select Manage DNS Records. Click + Add Record in the TXT or CNAME section, leave Host Name blank where told to use @, paste the value and save. MX records go through Edit MX Records: pick your provider or Other, enter each Points to address.

Wix keeps your domain's DNS records on one page, but it treats MX records differently from everything else: TXT and CNAME records go in **Manage DNS Records**, while mail servers go through an **Edit MX Records** wizard. Wix also wants the Host Name field left blank wherever other providers say `@`.

This guide covers MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC for a domain on Wix nameservers, using Wix's own help articles for every step. If you need the background first, read [SPF vs DKIM vs DMARC](https://iblockspam.com/blog/spf-vs-dkim-vs-dmarc).

## Can you manage your email DNS records in Wix?

Only if Wix runs your domain's DNS. Wix connects domains in two ways, and only one lets you edit records:

| How the domain is connected | Where email records go |
|---|---|
| **Wix nameservers** (default for domains bought from Wix) | **Manage DNS Records** in your Wix account |
| **Pointing** (domain registered elsewhere, A and CNAME records point to Wix) | Your domain host, not Wix |
| **Custom nameservers** (for example Cloudflare) | That DNS provider, not Wix |

Wix states it plainly: "If your domain is connected to Wix via pointing, or if you use custom nameservers, you must manage your DNS records with your DNS provider or domain host (not Wix)" ([Wix Help](https://support.wix.com/en/article/managing-dns-records-in-your-wix-account)). Our [MX Lookup](https://iblockspam.com/tools/mx-lookup) shows your live nameservers if you're unsure. If Cloudflare hosts your DNS, use our [Cloudflare guide](https://iblockspam.com/blog/add-dmarc-spf-dkim-records-cloudflare).

## Where do you add DNS records in Wix?

For TXT, CNAME and other non-MX records ([Wix Help](https://support.wix.com/en/article/managing-dns-records-in-your-wix-account)):

1. Go to **Domains** in your Wix account.
2. Click the **Domain Actions** icon next to the domain.
3. Click **Manage DNS Records**.
4. Scroll to the record type you need, for example **TXT (Text)** or **CNAME (Aliases)**, and click **+ Add Record**.
5. Enter the record in the fields.
6. Click **Save**, then **Save Changes** if a pop-up asks.

To change a record, hover over it and click **Edit**. To remove one, click the **More Actions** icon next to it, then **Delete** and **Delete Record**.

At the time of writing (October 2026), the fields are:

| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| **Host Name** | Blank for the root domain (where a provider says `@`), otherwise only the prefix, such as `_dmarc` |
| **Value** | The text or target your provider gives you |
| **TTL** | Leave at the default. Microsoft's Wix instructions use **One Hour** |

Wix's tip for the Host Name: "If you're instructed to create a DNS record with the **@** sign in the **Host Name** field, leave the **Host Name** field blank instead." Wix also says it recommends "leaving the TTL setting for your DNS records at the default value," and that changing TTL "does not speed up the time it takes for a DNS record to propagate."

Be careful around the default **A** and **CNAME** records. Wix warns that deleting them "may cause your site to go offline."

## How do you add or edit an SPF record in Wix?

Use the **TXT (Text)** section. Wix's [SPF article](https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-or-updating-spf-records-in-your-wix-account) says "The SPF record type is no longer used by all platforms. For this reason, it's best to add SPF records in the TXT section of your DNS records." [Microsoft's Wix instructions](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/dns/create-dns-records-at-wix) agree: "Wix provides an SPF row in the DNS editor. Ignore that row and use the TXT (Text) row."

You may have only one SPF record. [RFC 7208, section 3.2](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7208.html#section-3.2) says a domain "MUST NOT have multiple records" that an SPF check would select.

1. In **Manage DNS Records**, look in the TXT section for a record with a blank Host Name whose value starts with `v=spf1`. Check the SPF row too, in case an old one sits there.
2. If one exists, hover over it, click **Edit**, and add your new include before the final `all`.
3. If none exists, click **+ Add Record** in **TXT (Text)**, leave **Host Name** blank and paste your record into **Value**.
4. Click **Save**.

Example for a domain on Microsoft 365, taken from Microsoft's Wix page:

```
Section: TXT (Text)   Host Name: (blank)   Value: v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all
```

Our [SPF provider pages](https://iblockspam.com/spf) list each service's include, and the [SPF Record Generator](https://iblockspam.com/tools/spf-generator) merges several senders into one record.

## How do you add a DKIM record in Wix?

Your email or sending provider creates the DKIM key, and you publish either a TXT record or CNAME records.

### DKIM as a TXT record

1. Click **+ Add Record** in **TXT (Text)**.
2. Enter the selector host without your domain, for example `google._domainkey`.
3. Paste the key, which starts `v=DKIM1;`, into **Value** in one piece.
4. Click **Save**.

At the time of writing (October 2026), Wix's help pages don't document a maximum length for a TXT value. After saving a 2048-bit key, check it with the [DKIM Checker](https://iblockspam.com/tools/dkim-checker). If it comes back cut short, our guide to [DKIM keys too long for a TXT record](https://iblockspam.com/blog/dkim-2048-bit-key-txt-record-too-long) explains the options, including Google's 1024-bit fallback.

### DKIM as CNAME records

Microsoft 365 and many sending platforms use CNAMEs ([Wix Help](https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-or-updating-cname-records-in-your-wix-account)):

1. Click **+ Add Record** in **CNAME (Aliases)**, then **Got it** in the pop-up.
2. Enter the host in **Host Name**, for example `selector1._domainkey`.
3. Enter the provider's target in **Value**.
4. Click **Save**, then **Save Changes**. Repeat for any second selector.

If Wix shows **Hostname already in use**, another record has that name. Wix suggests removing it if it isn't needed. The `www` host is reserved for your Wix site, so ask your provider for another host name if it wants a CNAME there.

Then turn on signing in your provider's console. Our [DKIM setup guide for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace](https://iblockspam.com/blog/dkim-setup-microsoft-365-google-workspace) shows where, and [DKIM records by provider](https://iblockspam.com/dkim) lists each service's selectors.

## How do you add a DMARC record in Wix?

DMARC is a TXT record with the Host Name `_dmarc`.

1. Click **+ Add Record** in **TXT (Text)**.
2. Enter `_dmarc` in **Host Name**.
3. Enter your policy in **Value**, for example `v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@example.com`.
4. Click **Save**.

Keep a single `_dmarc` record and start at `p=none` with a reporting address you read. The [DMARC Record Generator](https://iblockspam.com/tools/dmarc-generator) builds the record, and [DMARC record examples](https://iblockspam.com/blog/dmarc-record-examples) explains every tag.

## How do you change MX records in Wix?

Wix uses a dedicated flow for mail servers ([Wix Help](https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-or-updating-mx-records-in-your-wix-account)). Read [how to change MX records without losing email](https://iblockspam.com/blog/change-mx-records-without-losing-email) before you switch, and note your current MX records so you can roll back.

1. Go to **Domains** in your Wix account.
2. Click the **Domain Actions** icon next to the domain and select **Edit MX Records**.
3. Open the dropdown. If your provider is listed, select it and click **Start Connecting**; Wix adds its MX records for you and you're done.
4. If it isn't listed, choose **Other (provider not on the list)**.
5. Enter the first mail server in the **Points to** field.
6. For each further server, click **+ Add Another** and fill in **Points to**.
7. Click **Connect Business Email**.

Wix's ordering rule is unusual: "When adding more than one MX record, add the record with the lowest Priority value first... The Priority values themselves do not need to match your provider's directions." So the order you enter servers is what counts.

Microsoft's Wix guide also says to delete any other MX records listed when you move mail to Microsoft 365. Leftover MX records from a Wix mailbox or an old provider can keep receiving part of your mail.

### What happens to email if you leave Wix nameservers?

If you switch to custom nameservers, Wix says "Wix mailboxes and email routing stop working unless your new DNS provider has the correct MX records," and "Any DNS records you set up in your Wix account stop working" ([Wix Help](https://support.wix.com/en/article/changing-nameserver-ns-records-for-a-wix-domain)). Copy every MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC record to the new provider before you change nameservers.

## What does a complete Wix email setup look like?

An example for a domain on Google Workspace. Your values will differ.

| Where in Wix | Type | Host Name | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit MX Records | MX | (set by Wix) | `smtp.google.com` |
| TXT (Text) | TXT | (blank) | `v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all` |
| TXT (Text) | TXT | `google._domainkey` | `v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=...` from the Admin console |
| TXT (Text) | TXT | `_dmarc` | `v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@example.com` |

## How do you check the records after saving?

Microsoft says DNS changes at Wix "typically" take about 15 minutes to take effect, though some take longer. Then:

1. Check **MX** with the [MX Lookup](https://iblockspam.com/tools/mx-lookup): only your intended mail servers.
2. Check **SPF** with the [SPF Checker](https://iblockspam.com/tools/spf-checker): one record, 10 lookups or fewer.
3. Check **DKIM** with the [DKIM Checker](https://iblockspam.com/tools/dkim-checker) and your selector.
4. Check **DMARC** with the [DMARC Checker](https://iblockspam.com/tools/dmarc-checker).
5. Send a test message to an outside mailbox and look for `spf=pass`, `dkim=pass` and `dmarc=pass` in the headers. Our [header reading guide](https://iblockspam.com/blog/how-to-read-email-headers) shows where.

## What are the common Wix email DNS mistakes?

- **Typing `@` into Host Name.** Leave it blank.
- **Adding SPF in the SPF row** instead of TXT, or adding a second SPF record.
- **Editing records in Wix while the domain is connected by pointing.** Make the change at your domain host.
- **Old MX records left behind** after switching email providers.
- **Changing nameservers before copying email records**, which stops mail.

## Next steps

1. Run the [Email Health Check](https://iblockspam.com/tools/email-health-check) to see all four records at once.
2. Build records with the [SPF Record Generator](https://iblockspam.com/tools/spf-generator) and [DMARC Record Generator](https://iblockspam.com/tools/dmarc-generator).
3. New domain? Follow the [new domain email setup checklist](https://iblockspam.com/blog/new-domain-email-setup-checklist).
4. Website edits can change DNS by accident. The free [Domain Watch](https://iblockspam.com/free-monitoring) checks your public MX, SPF and DMARC weekly and emails you when they change.

If you put a filtering service such as iBlockSpam in front of your mailboxes, you'd use **Other** in Edit MX Records with its mail servers. More walk-throughs are in [setup guides](https://iblockspam.com/blog/topic/setup).

## Frequently asked questions

### What do I put in the Wix Host Name field when told to use @?

Leave it blank. Wix's help says that if you're instructed to create a record with the @ sign in the Host Name field, you should leave the field empty instead. A blank Host Name means your root domain, such as example.com. For other records, enter only the prefix, such as _dmarc.

### Why can't I change DNS records for my domain in Wix?

Your domain is probably connected to Wix by pointing, or uses custom nameservers. Wix says that in both cases you must manage DNS records with your DNS provider or domain host, not Wix. Only domains on Wix nameservers can use Manage DNS Records, so add your email records wherever your nameservers point.

### Do Wix MX priorities have to match my email provider's numbers?

No. Wix's help says to add the MX record with the lowest priority value first, so records appear in ascending order, and that the priority values themselves don't need to match your provider's directions. What matters is the order. Add the primary mail server first and backups after it.

### Should I use the SPF row in the Wix DNS editor?

No. Wix says the SPF record type is no longer used by all platforms and recommends adding SPF records in the TXT section. Microsoft's Wix instructions say the same: ignore the SPF row and use the TXT (Text) row. RFC 7208 requires SPF to be published as a TXT record.

### What does Hostname already in use mean in Wix DNS?

Another record already uses that host name. Wix suggests removing the other record if you don't need it, or asking your provider for a different host name. The www host name is reserved for connecting a Wix site, so a mailbox provider's CNAME on www will always trigger this error.
