Mailprotector alternative: an honest comparison

Mailprotector builds email security for managed service providers: CloudFilter, Shield, Bracket encryption, archiving and continuity, with published support hours. iBlockSpam is a per-domain MX filter a business can buy directly. Here's how they compare on facts checked in October 2026.

The short answer

Mailprotector suits MSPs that want a full email security stack for their clients from one vendor: CloudFilter for any platform with MX control, Shield's trust-based inbox, Bracket encryption, archiving, a continuity copy and a support team with published hours. iBlockSpam suits businesses that want inbound filtering they can buy themselves, with a flat per-domain price, unlimited mailboxes, flexible digests, free DNS tools and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Competitor details below were checked on Mailprotector's own pages in October 2026.

What it costs at 10 and 50 mailboxes

Assumptions: one domain, published prices only, USD, excluding tax.

Item 10 mailboxes 50 mailboxes
Mailprotector CloudFilter Not published (set by your MSP) Not published
iBlockSpam Protect, annual $12/month ($144/year) $12/month ($144/year)

iBlockSpam Protect, month-to-month $15/month $15/month

If an MSP runs Mailprotector for you, its cost is usually part of a wider managed service, so compare the whole service, not just the filtering line.

When Mailprotector is the better choice

  • You're an MSP building an email security offering. Mailprotector is designed around partners, with NFR licences, partner training and a multi-client console.
  • You want more than filtering from one vendor. Shield, Bracket encryption, SecureStore archiving and XtraMail continuity sit alongside CloudFilter.
  • You want published support hours and a response target. Mailprotector lists Monday to Friday, 8am–7pm ET, and a two-hour response.
  • You want a message-by-message explanation. CloudFilter shows the scoring signals behind each decision.
  • Your MSP already runs it and handles quarantine and support for you.

When iBlockSpam is the better choice

  • You don't have an MSP, or want to own your filtering directly. You can sign up and pay per domain without a partner agreement.
  • You want prices you can read. Prices and per-domain limits are on the pricing page.
  • You have many users, shared mailboxes or aliases. One price per domain covers unlimited mailboxes and domain aliases, with 100,000 inbound messages a month.
  • You want each user to choose their digest schedule. Digests can run hourly, daily, on a chosen weekday or custom.
  • You want DNS drift alerts and free tools. Domain monitoring is included, and our tools need no sign-up.
  • You want a money-back guarantee. A domain's first annual subscription has a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to switch from Mailprotector

  1. If an MSP manages Mailprotector for you, tell them your plan and agree a cutover date and notice period.
  2. Export allow and block lists, and decide where archived mail will live if you rely on SecureStore or XtraMail.
  3. Save your current DNS with the Email Health Check and lower the MX TTL a day or two ahead.
  4. Add your domain in iBlockSpam and follow the guided setup for your platform.
  5. Update any connector or firewall rule that only accepts inbound mail from Mailprotector, and move your outbound relay if it runs through CloudFilter.
  6. Change MX, test with the Email Header Analyzer, and keep Mailprotector active until the old TTL has passed and no new mail arrives there.

Our migration plan covers each step and the rollback.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Mailprotector without an MSP?

Mailprotector presents itself as email security for MSPs, and its pages are written for partners managing client environments. It doesn't publish prices. If you don't work with an MSP, ask Mailprotector how to buy. iBlockSpam sells directly to businesses at published per-domain prices.

How is Mailprotector CloudFilter licensed?

Mailprotector's FAQ describes CloudFilter's User Sync pulling users from Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or LDAP, and says distribution lists, shared mailboxes and equipment accounts are left out of billing automatically, so the cost follows your user count. iBlockSpam charges per domain, with unlimited mailboxes and aliases.

What support hours does Mailprotector publish?

Mailprotector's support page lists a US-based team available Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm ET, with a two-hour response time for tickets. That's a clearer published commitment than iBlockSpam's today: we answer by email and confirm support arrangements during onboarding.

Does Mailprotector keep a copy of mail during an outage?

Mailprotector sells XtraMail, which keeps a rolling 30-day copy of inbound and outbound mail and requires CloudFilter. iBlockSpam doesn't offer a continuity mailbox; it spools inbound mail for up to 5 days while your server is down and keeps 30 days of message history.
